The medal was established on October 15, 1948 by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly. It was awarded to the Red Army servicemen who participated in the Soviet-Japanese War, which led to the liberation of the Korean Peninsula from Japanese rule. In North Korea, the medal is known as Chosŏn 1945.8.15 (Korean: 조선 1945.8.15), which is the date of National Liberation Day of Korea.
Order of the Star Third Class, type 1 (1980-1987) – awarded for bravery towards Afghan soldiers as well as towards Soviet military personnel and advisors in the Soviet-Afghan War in the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan.
The Order For Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR – Third Class was awarded in three classes. The third class of this order was awarded 69.576 times from it’s introduction in 1974 (firstly being awarded in 1975) till the fall of the USSR in 1991.
